Conseil des appellations réservées et des termes valorisants (CARTV)

How long has the CARTV existed?

The CARTV was created in 1998 by Quebec's Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (Ministère de l'Agriculture, des Pêcheries et de l'Alimentation or MAPAQ).

What is the CARTV's mission?

Within its certification mandate, the CARTV accredits bodies certifying domestic agrifood products, and recognizes organizations that certify products accepted from outside of Quebec.

Within its monitoring mandate, the CARTV continually verifies the commercial use of reserved designations, and when required it initiates legal proceedings against offending individuals and firms.

As part of its duties, the CARTV's must provide information and develop awareness among both the general public and all its partners on matters concerning the provincial regulatory framework.

Finally, the CARTV is responsible for making recommendations to Quebec's Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food on matters pertaining to the Act and its framework.
