How to Obtain a Reserved Designation Conclusion

6.
Conclusion

Operators wishing to offer agricultural or food products should first choose a commercial identification strategy that is suited to their objectives and which they can change according to their plans in the short, medium and long term. If a designation forms part of their commercial strategy, then it will be important to consider the fact that recognition for a reserved designation, in accordance with the Act Respecting Reserved Designations and Value-Added Claims applies only to an agricultural or food product that has been defined, controlled and marketed, and is recognized and specifically requested by consumers.

Those wishing to learn more about the concept of reserved designations or would like more specific details on how to obtain recognition and protection for a designation should consult the CARTV’s Establishment of Reference Manual Program and, more particularly, the Regulations for Reviewing Applications for Designations of Origin.
