The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has recognized the Quebec Accreditation Board / Conseil des appellations réservées et des termes valorisants (CARTV) for its conformance evaluation system for organic certifiers operating in Quebec, in accordance with Article 205.500 (c) (1), of 7 CFR Part 205, Subpart F, of the National Organic Program (NOP).
This recognition has been published on the USDA Web site and can be viewed at the following address:
www.ams.usda.gov/nop/NOP/TradeIssues/Quebec.html
The recognition by the USDA of the Quebec system means that CARTV's reference standards meet NOP requirements. It entitles certifiers accredited by the CARTV to certify on Quebec territory organic agricultural and food products intended for the United States market, according to standards proclaimed within the USDA's National Organic Program. As such, Quebec organic products exported to the United States are authorized to display the USDA logo.
The USDA regards the CARTV as being the only organization responsible for supervising the application of the National Organic Program on Quebec territory. In other words, any organization wishing to certify on Quebec territory organic agricultural and food products intended for the American market must first of all be accredited by the CARTV.
Operators must make sure labels affixed to the exported products fully comply with American labeling standards and that any use of the USDA Organic seal meets requirements set forth by the NOP, available for viewing at the following address:
