Scope of Application
Organically Designated Products under the CARTV's scope
These standards apply to the following products when they display or are intended to display information pertaining to organic production methods:
a. |
Products contributing to production system:
- manufactured inputs;
- various services (packaging, labelling, slaughtering, transporting and landscape maintenance).

Agricultural and food products
- crops (including those grown in greenhouses);
- harvested wild plant products;
- animal products (animal and derivative products);
- beekeeping products;
- aquaculture products;
- maple products;
- prepared products, resulting from processing and packing of organic ingredients (including foodstuffs and foodstuff additives).

Products that are neither agricultural nor food based but which contain organic ingredients
- ingredients used in the processing of cosmetic and personal care products.

Products used in food service outlets as well as lands managed for special purposes are categories of agricultural and food products which fall under the CARTV's scope but for which no standard presently apply. However these categories will eventually be added to the CARTV's organic reference standards.
Products excluded from CARTV's scope
Standards included in this document do not apply to the following products in any way. They are excluded from the CARTV's scope:
a. |
Agricultural and food products:
- wild harvested game animals;
- aquatic products (wild fish and algae);
- organic forestry products.

b) Products that are neither agricultural nor food based but which contain organic ingredients, such as:
- Manufactured goods containing ingredients originating from organic agriculture (e.g. candles, pillows, etc.);
- products made from processed plant fibres (fabrics, clothing, towels, etc.);
- products originating from organic forestry (fine papers, etc).
