CARTV Organic Reference Standards Revision Project
August 2, 2004
The Accreditation Board (Organic) has mandated the Standards Committee to inform you of modifications to be made to Quebec's Organic Reference Standards. These changes are intended to consolidate the various specifications currently used by the certifying bodies accredited by the CARTV. As such, standards being used by Quebec's operators to produce and market products bearing a reference to organic contents will be henceforth subjected to uniform requirements.
As it was previously the case, the standards enshrined in this project will establish a general technical and evolutionary framework covering the producing, processing, packaging, labeling and storing of agricultural products and foodstuffs that refer to the term "organic" when being sold.
In order to be sure that these standards are pertinent and that they are representative of the actual situations in which they are to be applied, the Standards Committee would like to invite the public and stakeholders to submit any reactions and any new ideas they might have. Once received, these comments will be taken into account when drafting of a final project to be submitted to the CARTV's Board of Directors for adoption. The application of these standards will become effective in 2005."
