Organic Aquaculture Standards Project
July 16, 2004
The Standards Committee affiliated with the Accreditation Board (Organic) would like to submit the general standards for your review. The objective of these standards is to provide a general framework for use in the aquaculture sector, under the organic designation.
This project consists of a group of requirements already decreed by other accrediting organizations and certifiers throughout the world who are involved in the organic aquaculture sector. Given that these standards are very technical in nature and continuously evolving, they are intended to serve as a general framework to be used in the overall management of organic fish operations in the converting, cultivating, harvesting, transporting, and processing of fish and other aquatic products, intended for human consumption and for sale under the label "organic" and its other related terms.
In order to be sure that these standards are pertinent and that they are representative of the actual situations in which they are to be applied, the Standards Committee would like to invite the public and stakeholders to submit any reactions and any new ideas they might have. Once received, these comments will be taken into account when drafting of a final project to be submitted to the CARTV's Board of Directors for adoption. They are expected to become effective in 2005.
